The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are the definition of a happy couple, celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary this April. The last ten years have seen the young couple transform into a family of five, welcoming their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
It’s hard to imagine a time when Kate and William weren’t associated with marital happiness, but there was a time, however, when their future was much less certain.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met at the university where they were both studying at St. Andrews and, according to Prince William, the attraction was quite immediate. “When I first met Kate I knew there was something very special about her,” she explained.
After a happy few years of appointment, except for a short break during their final exams, everything seemed to be going well. They went to Kenya on safari, went on a romantic ski trip to Klosters, and Kate was also invited to Sandringham for the royal family’s traditional Christmas dinner – the first royal friend to be invited.
The world was shocked, then, when in 2007, the couple split up. At the time there were rumors circulating that the two were in different places, with Kate ready to commit, but Prince William wanted to make the most of his youth and his freedom.
Years later, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spoke of their separation.
“We were both very young,” William said of his decision. ‘We found ourselves. There was a lot of trying to find our way and we were growing up. ‘
“I, at the time, wasn’t very happy about that,” Kate explains. “But it actually made me a stronger person.”
Luckily for everyone, they came to the senses, got together and went on a romantic holiday in Seychelles, where they apparently made a secret pact to get married.
It was not made official until 2010, when on November 16 the couple announced their long-awaited engagement and everything was back in the world.
